Warning: Rambling Ahead!!

Hmmm...where shall I begin...Thursday night Rhett and I went to the Golden Apple Awards for Escambia County. I really didn't know what to expect at all, and once we got there I was very surprised at the number of people there and how many schools were actually were in Escambia County. Anywho, Rhett was chosen to be the Teacher of the Year for one of his schools...the Juvenile Detention Center. Yep, that's right. My sweet little husband teaches the juvies of Pensacola. It's funny though, he says the elementary kids are harder to deal with sometimes (he also teaches at two elementary schools as well). Go figure. The Golden Apple Awards were held at New World Landing and we were treated to a yummy dinner. After dinner all the Teachers of the Year were recognized and given a golden apple (just picture an apple paper weight) and a nice little check. I am very proud of Rhett, I guess I never really thought about how hard his job can be sometimes...mostly draining I suppose. He not only works with the juvies at the Detention Center, he also works with the kids who have gotten expelled from area high schools at Judy Andrews, which is a "second chance" school. You really have to have alot of patience to deal with the supposed "worst of the worst". I certainly could not do it.
Warning: the next portion of my post is kind of morbid, depressing, and preachy...so you are forewarned!!
Saturday I went to my great aunt's funeral. My entire family was present at the beautiful service. Aunt Betty (that's what we all called her) was a sweet lady who spent 3 and 1/2 years battling Ovarian Cancer. Funerals are of course never a happy moment, but it was comforting knowing that she is no longer in pain. During and after the funeral I kept thinking about Cancer and how horrible it is. I then I turned my thoughts to my Aunt Betty and her husband, my Uncle Julian. They were married for 47 years. During the funeral he sat in the front row and cried throughout the service. I couldn't help but think that that's the kind of love I want Rhett and I to have over the course of our lives. I want Rhett and I to grow old together, raise children, spoil our grandbabies, retire and travel together, and in the end...comfort eachother when our time comes. I was just thinking that if I were to ever become fatally ill (which could quite possibly happen), I know that Rhett would sit in the front row and cry for me. I know it's morbid to think of things like that, but life is definitely not all good times. The Pastor that spoke during the service stated that he and his wife have been married for 43 years. He then joked that he has been happily married for 10 years. Everyone present at the service giggled a bit. Even the Pastor admitted that marriage is by no means easy. But seriously, I can't stand how people paint this wonderful picture that everything is absolutely perfect in their lives. Don't they know that it's okay that bad times are a part of life? If everything were perfect, then what would we get out of life? My life is no where near perfect. I am not a perfect person. Mine and Rhett's relationship is not perfect. However, every obstacle that I overcome makes me a stronger person and every obstacle Rhett and I overcome together makes our relationship stronger as a whole. So, amongst all this rambling I know I have a point somewhere...and I guess my point is that I know in my heart that life cannot always be everything you want it to be. You just have to live it with the ones you love the best you can and try to overcome all the obstacles. In the end, the loved ones you've overcome all the obstacles of life with will be there standing by your side, holding your hand, comforting you when it's your time to go, crying in the front row.
Sooooo...now that I've completely depressed everyone by rambling on and on about life and death...I suppose all I have to say now is I hope everyone has a fantastic week!! =)
Oh, and here are some more cute pictures of little Libby!!

Good job, Baby Rhett! That's so awesome!

I really liked your rambling. :) I promise if you die before me that I will cry in the front row! I just love you so much, and I'm so glad to have such a close friend who isn't afraid to display her imperfections and be REAL!
