Sleeping and other stuff too...

Our weekend was pretty eventful! Eventful in sense that we're working on our little Lyla's sleeping patterns. I talked last week about how we were going to start this Friday night and both Rhett and myself were actually looking forward to it! Anywho, here's the rundown of the first 3 nights of "retraining" Lyla's sleep patterns:
Friday/Night 1- We did everything we normally do. We gave Lyla a bath, put her in her pjs, and gave her a bottle. However, instead of putting her completely to sleep we waited until she was very tired, we put her in her crib, said "night night", and walked out of the room. Immediately she started crying. We waited about a minute (probably less), went back in her room, laid her back down (because she had gotten herself into the standing position), calmed her down, said "night night", and walked out again. Again, she started crying. So, let me just keep you from the suspense. This process continued for about 40 minutes. However, at the end of the 40 minutes, Lyla was no longer getting herself up into the standing position. She was still crying, but she was now just laying down crying. We saw progress. Not long after that she fell asleep, all by her little self! :) Not only did she finally fall asleep on her own, she slept all night long without even waking up once! She slept from about 9:30 pm- 6:30 am. We were thrilled with the results!
Saturday/Night 2- We were excited from the results of Night 1, but to be honest we were not too hopeful that our luck would continue to Night 2. So Night 2 begins with the same routine as Night 1...bath, pjs, bottle, laid her down in her crib when she was tired but not yet asleep, said "night night", and walked out. As predicted, Lyla cried. We waited a couple minutes, went back in, laid her down, calmed her down, said "night night", and walked out. This process continued for almost as long as Night 1. She finally fell asleep. Now we noticed two differences from Night 1 and Night 2: Lyla cried less and it took her less time to put herself to sleep. Night 2 she slept amazingly! She slept from about 9:15-9:30 ish pm to 7:30 am! Without waking up! Sweet! Sunday/Night 3- Basically, the same exact steps as in Nights 1 and 2, however it took less time for her to go to sleep and she definitely cried less. We could definitely see a lot of progression from each night! Progression is what we were excited to see! We knew that her sleeping would not change overnight, but to see progression tells us that what we are doing is working. Night 3 we put her to bed a little earlier than the other two nights, not for any reason, just because that's when we were able to so. She slept from about 8:30 pm to about 6:30 am. We are so pleased with how everything is going! Tonight is Night 4 so we shall see if everything keeps progressing.
Anywho, here are pictures of the rest of the weekend that didn't involve sleeping...
Lyla playing in my headband drawer while I got ready Saturday morning. Ohhh, she had fun and I had fun cleaning it up! :)
We hung out with Opa most of Saturday. We just ate lunch and ran some errands. It was fun!
Lyla dressed all warm to go to the park... I'm pretty sure she's thinking "What are these things on my hands"?!
Swinging's fun!
"Higher Daddy, higher"!
"Weeeeeeeeeeee"!
I think she was pretty much tired of the swinging by this point.
Oh, but there's more fun stuff at the park than just swings! Like this little bouncy panda!
But of course, her new thing is to just wave "bye bye"...whenever...
Mmmm, juice. She loves her some juice! Bottoms up!
Walking with Daddy! Still not on her own, but she was doing so very good walking with her Daddy!

And that's all!

I wish McKenzie would drink juice... she just likes to gnaw on the cup, not drink from it. How'd you get her to drink?

Oh gosh Pam, it took her forever to actually likeusing a sippy cup. We tried different juices, but it made all the difference when I found the one she really liked! She really likes Gerber Mixes Fruit Juice. She loves it! Maybe find on that McKenize really likes...it took us awhile too. :)
